Product Introduction

End-of-life vehicles are mountains of mixed materials — steel panels, aluminum castings, copper wiring, plastics, glass, and rubber. Transporting and processing whole car shells is expensive and inefficient. Hammermills can shatter them but create dangerous dust and sparks, while underpowered shredders choke on thick chassis sections and tangled wire harnesses. You need a machine that can swallow a flattened car body and chew through it in minutes without catching fire or jamming.

Our Heavy-Duty Twin-Shaft Car Shell Shredder is the brute-force answer to automotive recycling. With massive low-speed torque and aggressive, wear-resistant blades, it rips through pressed body shells, chassis components, and mixed automotive scrap without sparking, without stalling, and without requiring pre-shredding. The result is a dense, uniform scrap stream perfectly conditioned for magnetic ferrous recovery, eddy current non-ferrous separation, and Zorba/Zurik production. Turn end-of-life vehicles from a logistical headache into a profitable scrap metal business.

Product Features

Twin-Shaft, High-Torque Destruction Two counter-rotating shafts equipped with massive, through-hardened alloy steel blades operate at very low speed (10–20 rpm). The immense torque tears through pressed steel body panels, aluminum engine parts, plastic bumpers, and copper wiring harnesses in a single pass. No sparking, no overheating, and no fragile high-speed rotors to shatter under impact loads.
Mixed Material Tolerant — Metals, Plastics & Everything Car shells are a chaotic mix of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, glass, textiles, and rubber. Our aggressive rotor profile and precision blade clearance cut, tear, and crush everything uniformly without wrapping, bridging, or requiring pre-sorting. Plastics and textiles are chopped, metals are sheared, and the entire vehicle is reduced to saleable scrap fractions.
Intelligent Anti-Jam & Auto-Reverse The PLC continuously monitors shaft torque. When a thick drive shaft, engine block fragment, or uncrushable tramp metal is detected, the rotors instantly auto-reverse to eject the obstruction and resume forward rotation automatically. No operator prying, no cutting torch rescue, no hours of downtime clearing jammed chambers.
Heavy-Duty Wear-Resistant Blades Shredding car bodies involves contact with high-tensile steels, spring steel, and occasional hardened components. Our blades are forged from high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel with through-hardening, designed for impact toughness and abrasion resistance. Thick cutting edges accept multiple re-sharpening cycles, and the segmental bolt-on design allows fast, targeted replacement of worn sections.
Controlled Output Size for Downstream Separation Interchangeable sizing screens on a hydraulic cradle let you dial in the exact output particle size — typically 50–150mm for downstream shredder feeding, magnetic separation, and eddy current recovery. Consistent sizing maximizes separation efficiency and the market value of your ferrous and non-ferrous products.

Applicable Material

Car Shell & Automotive Scrap Materials We Shred

  • End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV): Complete flattened passenger car bodies, including body panels, doors, bonnets, boot lids, and roof sections. Steel, zinc-coated panels, and attached plastics are processed together.

  • Stamping & Press Shop Scrap: Automotive stamping skeletons, offcuts, and rejected body-in-white panels. High-value clean sheet steel is reduced to uniform fragments for direct remelting.

  • Chassis & Subframe Components: Suspension arms, crossmembers, crash beams, and engine cradles. High-strength steel and aluminum components are sheared and liberated for material-specific recovery.

  • Automotive Aluminum Parts: Engine blocks, transmission cases, cylinder heads, heat exchangers, and wheels. Mixed aluminum is shredded and separated downstream via eddy current or XRT.

  • Hybrid & EV Battery Shells: EV battery trays and enclosures (batteries removed prior to shredding). Steel and aluminum structural housings are processed for metal recovery.

  • Truck Cabins & Light Commercial Bodies: LCV cargo bodies, van shells, and pickup cabins. Larger dimensions processed in our CSH-1500 and CSH-1800 models.

FAQ

Can the shredder handle a whole flattened car body? Yes. Our larger models (CSH-1200 and above) are designed to accept flattened car bodies directly. The vehicle must be flattened to approximately 300–500mm thickness for optimal feeding. We can also supply upstream flattening or pre-shearing equipment as part of a complete line.
What happens to the copper wiring, plastics, and glass in the car shell? All materials are shredded together into a mixed output stream. Ferrous metal is then recovered by magnetic separation, non-ferrous metals (aluminum, copper) by eddy current, and the remaining non-metallic fraction (plastics, glass, rubber) is typically used as SRF or landfill cover.
Will the shredder spark or catch fire from fuel residues? No. The extremely low rotor speed (10–20 rpm) generates no sparks or frictional heat. However, end-of-life vehicles should be depolluted (fluids, fuel, battery removed) prior to shredding for safety and environmental compliance.
What output size is best for downstream separation? For primary shredding, 50–150mm particles provide optimal liberation for magnetic and eddy current separation. Our interchangeable screens allow you to adjust output size based on your downstream equipment and target scrap grades.
How often do blades need re-sharpening? Car body shredding involves contact with high-strength steels. Typical blade re-sharpening intervals are 400–700 operating hours. One set of blades can be re-sharpened 5–7 times. Regular inspection and gap adjustment maximize blade life.
Can you supply a complete ELV recycling plant? Yes. We design and deliver complete automotive shredding and separation lines: primary shredder → conveyor → magnetic separator → secondary granulator → eddy current → clean ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Full engineering, layout design, and commissioning support are included.
